• In China about one baby in 700 is born with a cleft deformity- that amounts to over 430,000 per year.
• GSO will support programs in Latin America, Africa, and China this year.
• In Africa we reconstruct children born with clefts but also many mutilated by terrorists.
• When added to in-kind donations, $500 will allow one child to have a cleft repair.
• The rule of ten recommends children with cleft lip deformities be repaired when they are at least 10 weeks of age, weigh at least 10 pounds, have a hemoglobin of at least 10 gm/dl and have a white blood cell count of less than 10,000/mm2.
• Children in orphanages have difficulty being adopted unless their clefts are repaired.
• Our surgical goal is to repair 100 children on a mission.
